Why did the otter cross the road? To avoid having to swim under a bridge!

Odense Kommune in Denmark has found that otters are scared of swimming under bridges and are increasingly crossing roads with heavy traffic to move around the landscape.

This is dangerous for the once-threatened animal, and the municipality reckons that 30 to 40 otters died trying to cross busy roads in the past year.

To solve the problem, Odense Municipality are now building small passages made of rocks under the bridges so that otters can walk rather than swim under bridges!
