The dream of being able to breathe underwater without heavy and expensive diving equipment is a step closer with the launch of a Kickstarter campaign by Melbourne-based Scorkl to fund its revolutionary portable and lightweight breathing apparatus.
The Scorkl is a unique and compact breathing device enabling a user to breathe freely underwater for up to 10 minutes. The device can then be easily refilled on the spot with a specially designed hand pump.
Scorkl creator David Hallamore said his idea was to create a simpler way for everyone to enjoy exploring underwater. “This is a game-changer for anyone who loves the water, whether they’re a licenced scuba diver, recreational snorkeler, spearfishing and freediving enthusiast or boat-owner,†said Mr Hallamore.
“Scorkl opens up a whole new world of underwater adventures at a fraction of the cost and hassle of traditional diving equipment.â€
With a funding goal of $30,000 a Scorkl can be purchased for $269 AUD($199 USD) during the Kickstarter launch at a steep discount to the future retail price.
Mr Hallamore said he hoped the Scorkl would be the first item among a wider product range.“We hope to build a whole community of “Scorklers†-watermen and waterwomen -who truly know what it’s like to swim the oceans like a fish,†said Mr Hallamore.
