Danish media reports that a 52-year-old woman has died today during the Vejle Fjordsvøm in Vejle, Jutland, an open water event attracting 500-600 participants to swim the 1.4 kilometers across the firth of Vejle. Apparently they first discovered that she was missing when recounting after the swim, and then sent a helicopter and a rescue boat to search for her, not sure if she had come ashore somewhere else or had gone missing in the water. The helicopter then found a body in the water that they assume was the woman, her family has been informed and an autopsy will be performed Monday. The Danish Swimming Federation has sent out this press release, expressing shock as co-organizer of the Vejle Fjord Svøm.
