Michael Phelps’ new Louis Vuitton ads may land him in some hot water, due to IOC’s regulations about promoting non-Olympic sponsors. Photos of Phelps taken by Annie Leibovitz were leaked online August 13, violating the International Olympic Committee’s controversial Rule 40 that bars athletes from promoting non-Olympic sponsors from July 18 through August 15. Punishments range from fines to a stripping of medals, but it is highly doubtful that Phelps will loose his record-breaking medal haul, as the campaign was supposed to begin in compliance with the rule on August 16, and as it is unclear who leaked the photos.
