Eamon Sullivan has quit the Asian leg of the FINA World Cup series as a precautionary measure after suffering a mystery illness. He was floored by the bug with flu and gastrolike symptoms for six days during the World Cup meet in Moscow two weeks ago, finished sixth in the 50m freestyle final last night, and leaves Singapore for home today.

“I was feeling good today and didn’t swim that great so obviously something’s just a bit off and I think it will be a lot more beneficial for me going home and getting back into training than toughing it out for two more weeks.”
